SUMMARY:Birds of the California Delta with Aaron Haiman 4-9-26 at the Benicia Public Library at 7:00 p.m.
DESCRIPTION:Birds of the California Delta with Aaron Haiman 4-9-26 at 7:00 p.m.  \nGreetings AlI NSAS Members\, Family & Friends:\n\nPlease Come Join us Thursday\, April 9th for our April Speaker Series\nDate: Thursday\, April 9\, 2026 at 7:00 p.m.\nLocation: Benicia Public Library \nOur Speaker Series is in-person and via zoom for those viewing from afar\, or unable to travel in the evening (See Zoom connection details below.) \nAbout the Program: Based on the new book\, Birds of the California Delta\, this talk will focus on the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta as a place of connections and complexities. This is a place where rivers meet one another\, where freshwater meets salt water\, where fish link inland forests with the open ocean\, where birds from the north come for the winter\, and where birds from the south come to breed. The Delta is also a place of complexity. How water interacts with land and forms soil is a complex process. How humans use water\, and land contains a nest of complex pressures. All these connections and complexities play out on a daily basis throughout the Delta. \nAbout the Presenter: Aaron N.K. Haiman\, a life-long birder\, began volunteering at a young age with bird research organizations before receiving a BS in Environmental Science from UC Berkeley as well as MS degrees in Avian Science and Animal Behavior from UC Davis. Aaron guides bird walks\, mentors high school students in ecology and sustainability\, leads a youth bird-a-thon team\, gives presentations on birds and habitat restoration\, and is active on YouTube and social media under the handle “A Birding Naturalist” sharing knowledge of birds\, nature. and science. He works for the State of California and lives in West Sacramento. \nJoin Zoom Meeting\nhttps://us02web.zoom.us/j/84390675878?pwd=fCOtCtkZZTT1S5aUmnNTnviEnRGQqv.1 \nMeeting ID: 843 9067 5878\nPasscode: 501404\n \nOne tap mobile\n+16694449171\,\,84390675878#\,\,\,\,*501404# US\n+16699009128\,\,84390675878#\,\,\,\,*501404# US (San Jose) \nZoom Tips: If you click on the link and are not able to join the Zoom Meeting\, first try copying and pasting the entire link into your web browser and then hit the return key. SUMMARY:NSAS Beginners Bird Walk on Sunday\, April 12th at 9:00 a.m.
DESCRIPTION:NSAS Beginners Bird Walk on Sunday\, April 12th at 9:00 a.m.\n\nRecently the weather has been cooperating with sunny days\, and our Beginners walks have been excellent outings.\nWe’d be delighted to have you join us for our next Beginners’ Bird Walk on Sunday\, April 12\, at the American Canyon Wetlands Edge Park.  No reservations are necessary\, just plan to show up and enjoy being outdoors for a while. It’s a great time to be birding at the wetlands as the location offers an opportunity to observe a wide variety of wintering birds.  What you’ll see are ducks\, shorebirds\, songbirds\, and raptors.  You’ll see both migrant species that call the local wetlands their winter home and our resident birds that live in the area year-round.\nThe walk is open to birders of all levels and ages.  Napa Solano Audubon membership is encouraged but not required.  It’s free\, it’s fun\, and loaner binoculars are on hand if you need them.  If you have questions about this outing\, please e-mail Tom Slyker at solanobirder@gmail.com.\n\nMeeting time and location:  We will meet at 9 AM on Sunday\, April 12th\, at the parking lot for the Wetlands Edge Park\, which is located at 2 Eucalyptus Drive in American Canyon.  We expect that the walk will take between 2 – 3 hours and we should be finished by noon.\n\nDirections: From Vallejo\, take Hwy 29 north towards Napa.  Turn left off of Hwy 29 onto Rio Del Mar.  There is a stop light at this location.  Immediately after turning onto Rio Del Mar\, turn right onto Eucalyptus Drive.  Continue west on Eucalyptus until you reach the parking lot.  From Napa\, drive south on Highway 29 till you reach Rio Del Mar.  Turn right onto Rio Del Mar and immediately turn right onto Eucalyptus Drive.  Continue west on Eucalyptus until you reach the parking lot.  From eastern Solano County take Hwy 80 to American Canyon Road.  Go west on American Canyon Road until it ends at Wetlands Edge Road.  Turn right on Wetlands Road and go north until you hit Eucalyptus Road.  Turn left on Eucalyptus Road and you will be at the Wetlands Edge Park parking lot.\n\nLeaders: Tom Slyker and Carol Boykin will be leading this walk.  Both are citizen science volunteers who participate in the Napa Solano Audubon’s CA Birdseasons project at the wetlands location.  NSAS has been monitoring birds at this site on a weekly basis since 2016.  This monitoring has provided the participants with a wealth of knowledge about the birds you might see.\n\nWhat to bring: Warm clothing in layers as it can get windy and cold at this location.  We will be walking ~ 2 miles over paved trails so comfortable walking shoes will be needed.  Bring binoculars if you have them.  If not\, we will have extra binoculars for you to use.  Tom and Carol will have spotting scopes for better views of some of the more distant birds.  Water and snacks are items you should plan to carry with you.

SUMMARY:Earth Day Napa Creek Cleanup on Saturday\, April 25th 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
DESCRIPTION:Here is a wonderful opportunity to make our world cleaner for birds\, wildlife and ourselves. Betty Labastida coordinates the Napa Creek Cleanup area for this event which is sponsored by the Napa County RCD (Napa Resource Conservation District). Betty will greet you with buckets\, gloves and pickup devices although if you have your own\, please bring them. Wear your grubby clothes because depending on your physical ability you can walk down to clean up the edges of the creek. Or\, just normal dress and walk the sidewalks. When you bring the garbage back to Betty\, she will sort out all the recyclables. Every year this activity removes thousands of pounds of garbage and recyclables from our waterways\, and riparian areas and helps to make Napa County a better place for everyone to enjoy.
