SUMMARY:NSAS October Field Trip to Mangini Ranch Educational Preserve Sunday\, October 27th at 8:00 a.m.
DESCRIPTION:Save Mount Diablo’s Mangini Ranch Educational Preserve is over 200 acres situated between the Crystyl Ranch residential development in Concord and Lime Ridge Open Space in Walnut Creek. The preserve includes grassland\, stream canyons\, blue oak woodland\, chaparral\, and oak savannas. It’s home to rare species such as the northernmost stand of desert olive\, rare Hospital Canyon Larkspur\, and threatened Alameda Whipsnake. Deer\, Coyote\, Burrowing Owls\, Kestrels\, and lots of other wildlife live here too. The preserve’s high ridge line provides spectacular views of central Contra Costa County to Marin\, Sonoma\, and Solano counties. Save Mount Diablo’s free public Mangini Ranch Educational Preserve’s Mission is: “to afford opportunities for our community to connect with nature. By facilitating these experiences\, we can help address the serious issue of the modern disconnection from nature that currently threatens our perpetual land conservation mission.” \nSign-up/Register Here\nCar pool: Meet at Imola River Park Shopping center\, west of Rite Aid. Leaving at 7:00 am. \nDirections:\nHiker gate next to 5318 Crystyl Ranch Drive\, Concord\, CA 94521.\nFrom Ygnacio Valley Road\, turn onto Crystyl Ranch Drive and continue for about 1.5 miles\, to the hiker gate located on the south side of Crystyl Ranch Drive between Autumn Oak Circle and Rolling Woods Way. \nWatch for a Save Mount Diablo staff member or volunteer\, who will open the access gate and direct you onto the access road. A sign will also be out to help alert you. \nWhat to bring: Binoculars\, spotting scope\, good walking shoes and appropriate clothing for the weather\, LUNCH\, water\, and snacks. \nNew Registration Process: A Registration Form will be sent out to you on Saturday\, September 28th at 9:00 a.m. which is about a month before the Field Trip takes place. An eBlast Reminder will be sent out to you to confirm when the Registration Form will be emailed to you and when the Registration Period begins!
